First-Gen Advice: Spend as much time exploring campus and Goleta/SB as possible! For most people, you are in a new, unfamiliar space and city for the first time. Aside from personal or familial obligations, try to limit your visits home. Your time here is limited, so go out, meet new people, and see new places! With that in mind, responsibly step out of your comfort zone. You may make new friends in unexpected places or discover you like a hobby you otherwise would have never tried. Lastly, reach out for help whenever you need. There is a whole community of first-gen students, faculty, and staff that is here to support you along your journey!
