Biography
Mariela is a first-generation 4th year student double majoring in Global Studies and Linguistics’ Language, Culture and Society at UCSB. When she is not in a bout of constant academic stress or emails, Mariela enjoys writing, astrology and sweet pastries.
Advice
Be patient with yourself in all academic, personal or familial aspects. If the first try doesn’t work, give it time—it is not a race and we are all unique individuals! Take advantage of the resources here: they are for you to take! Be ahead of housing! There are so many cool events and clubs here so dabble in whatever you’re slightly interested in and be brave in making friends. Enjoy the breeze and the lifetime of fond memories. Make your time at UCSB be one that can be cherished for years to come.
