Biography

Originally from San Martin TIlcajete, Oaxaca, Mexico, Rosario is a first-generation, low-income, and undocumented transfer student at UCSB. After transferring from Cabrillo College last Fall of 2021, Rosario quickly became involved with several on-campus organizations and worked on-campus with the Educational Opportunity Program as a Peer Mentor under the guidance of the Chicanx/Latinx Cultural Resource Center. She also completed an internship with Future Leaders of America in June, where she supported the Latinx youth of Santa Barbara in advocating for policies to improve their lives and the lives of their peers and their communities. As a rising senior at UCSB, Rosario is excited to make the most of her last year at UCSB! She looks forward to creating lasting memories with peers, becoming involved in research opportunities, and supporting students at UCSB who share similar identities as her.

First-Gen Advice

As a first-generation student, it is easy to compare yourself to others and diminish your accomplishments. However, remember that you are here at this educational institution for a reason and that we are here to support you! Do not let anyone ever diminish your patience, effort, and hard work. I am incredibly proud of you and rooting for your success every single step of the way. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me or any of the other OSC Peer Mentors this academic year.
