Leilani is a fourth year, first-generation, undergraduate student at UCSB majoring in Sociology and double minoring in History and Applied Psychology. With the 2020-2021 academic year being Leilani’s second year at the OSC and last year at UCSB, she is incredibly excited to serve the first-generation, first-year student population by creating and hosting helpful workshops and meeting students in her office hours. In addition to her ONDAS peer mentor position, Leilani will begin her third year serving as a peer mentor for the Undergraduate Mentorship Program (UMP) and begin her new position as a mentor liaison. Leilani’s piece, “Underrepresentation of Females in STEM Fields” has been published in the sixteenth edition of UCSB’s Writing Program’s annual journal, Starting Lines.

Leilani’s academic interests include: race, multiracial identity, education, student success and belonging, student development, and first-generation student success to name a few. She is passionate about assisting UCSB’s first generation college students to ensure that they feel welcomed and succeed here at the university. She is working towards a career in student affairs or higher education counseling due to her passion to help underrepresented and first generation college students succeed. During her free time she loves to be creative by cooking Filipino & Mexican food, doing “DIY” projects, or painting.
