Biography:

Jackie is a rising fourth year student at UCSB with a major in Communication and a minor in Applied Psychology. Jackie has a strong interest in supporting first-generation and marginalized identities and is excited to return for a third year at the OSC. In addition to serving as a peer mentor for this center, Jackie also serves as a peer advisor for the department of Communication. Other extracurricular activities include being a scholar for the McNair Scholars Program and an active member of Phi Lambda Rho Sorority Inc. Her ultimate goal is to pursue a Ph.D. in School Psychology, after which she would love to help low-income, underrepresented communities get access to mental health services that are often inaccessible. Jackie also enjoys watching running, baking, and reading. 

Advice for First-Generation College Students:

Find a support system! It may sometimes feel like a challenge to navigate the campus and all its resources, but I promise that there is always someone ready to help you. UCSB is an incredibly welcoming place with friendly staff, faculty, and students who will change your experience on campus. Remember that you earned your place at UCSB and are capable of overcoming any obstacle you may encounter.
